Experience
- Dynamic Controls, Incorporated (DCI) and Dynamic Associates (a real estate partnership)
DCI was a $15 million services company for the retail supermarket industry, with over 200 employees at its operational peak. It was the innovator of the customer loyalty card/key tag program and card marketing concepts. Rick was Vice President and Corporate Controller, responsible for all financial, accounting and personnel functions of the company.
Rick served simultaneously as Controller and Facilities Manager for a separate, but DCI owner affiliated commercial real estate entity, Dynamic Associates (DA).
Rick coordinated and oversaw various DA projects which included the construction of a modern office park, Paynters Ridge Office Park, (a picture of Building A follows this section) consisting of 24,000 square feet (sf), and the renovation, for DCI, of 16,000 sf of existing vacant warehouse space to include a state-of-the-art computer data center, a client video/audio training center, a print shop, a finished warehouse and administrative offices.
Rick was also responsible for the financial aspects of the construction/renovation projects, the negotiation of leases, the ongoing facilities’ property management and the ultimate selling of properties on the commercial real estate market. The various properties under his management totaled approximately 60,000 sf.
DCI was subsequently acquired by Catalina Marketing Corporation (CMC), a $600 million company at the time, in Tampa, Florida, providing services to the retail supermarket industry. Rick was involved with the negotiations and was responsible for the due diligence process prior to the merger. He remained employed with CMC as Director, Financial Operations, to coordinate the merger’s administrative transition. The transition included the integration of CMC’s Lawson accounting system with DCI’s accounting system and the assimilation of facilities, personnel, payroll, health benefit plans and retirement plans. After a year with CMC, Rick resigned to manage Coupon Controls Incorporated.
- Coupon Controls Incorporated (CCI)
CCI provided manufacturer coupon processing, as well as, third party accounts receivable accounting and collection services for supermarket retailers. Rick was V.P., Controller and General Manager.
During the 9 years he was in charge of overseeing the operations of the company, CCI processed and provided accounting services for the 700 million coupons redeemed at clients’ stores. They had a value in excess of $640 million.
CCI established and maintained a unique deduction system of receivable collection. CCI was responsible for the coordination of deducting client coupon invoices directly from manufacturer merchandise invoices via an electronic file that was transmitted to the client’s Accounts Payable department. This method ensured that 99% of coupon receivables were collected and resulted in an average annual savings to the client of $3.5 million in annual potential write offs.
In addition, when a major client subcontracted their warehouse and distribution division of their business, Rick developed a consolidation of invoices system. This system substantially reduced the fees that would have been charged to the client, by the subcontractor, for making deductions on the client’s behalf. The potential fee savings was $4 million annually.
